Gipsy Kings - Gipsy Kings
By augmenting the traditional sound of Flamenco(guitars and hand-claps) with extra percussion, bass and even synthesizer the Gipsy Kings broke through to a massive international audience in 1988 and after. Despite the name this album was not their first album but was brought to a wider audience by the lively production and the attention of the record company. From the Catalan region in the south of France, they brought their Latin Gypsy music and temperament to the world.
Exciting and rhythmic the music is impossible to ignore and one can only dance along with the excitement and passion the music is played with. Massive hits such as Bomboleo and Djobi Djoba are joined by calmer instrumentals such as Moorea and the more forlorn love-songs such as Amor Amor.
Each and every song is played by a band of expetr musicians who put in their music all the passion and desire of their race.
This edition, mastered by Kevin Gray and pressed by RTI for Audio Fidelity displays even more of the excellent recording. More subtle elements such as the Bass and some percussion are revealed, as much to the body as the ear. Every component of the music, instrumental or vocal has extra space in which to live and breathe and you can only sit back(or dance) and marvel at the intricacies of the arrangements and the playing.
Packaging is a little bit disappointing. The cover is a blurred copy of the original while the inner sleeve is a plain white polylined sleeve. But you are not losing any artwork from the original.
Highly recommended on all counts!
