Doriella Du Fontaine  (Jimi Hendrix, Buddy Miles And Lightnin’ Rod)
To celebrate and support Record Store Day 2011, the newly re-launched and Karakos-powered Celluloid Records presents a limited repress of the classic “Doriella Du Fontaine”. The project began in late 1969 with famed producer Alan Douglas recording the unmistakable Jimi Hendrix and legendary Buddy Miles in rolling and groove-laden musical backdrop. Fast forward 4 years and Lightnin’ Rod (aka Jalaluddin Mansur Nuriddin) adds in his distinctive vocal soundtrack. Rod calls it “spoagraphics” (spoken pictures) but to most listeners hear it as the roots of an early form of rap. Rhythm, spoken-word and the art of the storyteller all wrapped up into one. The two meld together to create something new and unheard in 1973 and something still sounding fresh in 2011.

The Velvet Underground
Foggy Notion/I Can’t Stand It -RECORD STORE DAY- Limited Edition 7″ Single

S 227 | 7″ Single

Limited Edition Record Store Day Release!

Between May and October 1969, the Velvet Underground (Lou Reed, Sterling Morrison, Moe Tucker and Doug Yule) recorded fourteen songs at the Record Plant in New York City for what would have been the band’s fourth album for MGM/Verve Records. But when the Velvets left the label soon after, the recordings were shelved, and would not be heard by the public for a decade and a half. These songs, from those long-lost sessions, capture the Velvet Underground at a fascinating transitional point between the understated intimacy of their self-titled third album and the focused melodic rock of their next release, Loaded. Hear them in glorious mono!!!

1. Foggy Notion (edit)
2. I Can’t Stand It

John Mayall and Eric Clapton
Lonely Years/Bernard Jenkins -RECORD STORE DAY- Limited Edition 7″ Single

S 228 | 7″ Single

Limited Edition Record Store Day Release!

The short-lived but seminal partnership between British blues godfather John Mayall and guitar godhead Eric Clapton is famous for producing the massively influential Blues Breakers album. But Mayall and Clapton also collaborated on this lesser-known, yet equally noteworthy, single. The disc, originally issued in a limited edition on producer Mike Vernon’s mail-order-only Purdah label, features a pair of spare duo performances: the loping Mayall composition ”Lonely Years” and the rousing Clapton-penned instrumental “Bernard Jenkins.” Both sides were recorded in October 1965, a few months before the Blues Breakers LP, but released shortly after the album. These two rare vintage gems, sourced from the original mono masters, capture both of these legendary blues masters in an intimate, stripped-down setting.

The Yardbirds
Goodnight Sweet Josephine/Think About It -RECORD STORE DAY- Limited Edition 7″ Single

S 229 | 7″ Single

Limited Edition Record Store Day Release!

The Yardbirds’ fabled final lineup, anchored by Jimmy Page’s visionary guitar work, produced a small but vital body of music that explored an adventurous assortment of styles while laying the sonic groundwork for Page’s next band, Led Zeppelin. The Yardbirds’ final single, originally issued in 1967, combined the baroque pop confection “Goodnight Sweet Josephine” (penned by noted U.K. tunesmith Tony Hazzard) with the original “Think About It,” whose dark, turbulent vibe previewed Led Zeppelin’s heavier approach.

Freddy (Freddie) King
Wash Out/Butterscotch -RECORD STORE DAY- Limited Edition 7″ Single

S 230 | 7″ Single

Limited Edition Record Store Day Release!

Freddie King (billed early in his career as Freddy King) was one of the giants of electric blues guitar. The Texas-born, Chicago-bred King merged country and urban influences into a distinctive, stinging style that became a crucial influence on such stellar rock axemen as Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan and the Rolling Stones’ Mick Taylor. Although he first recorded in the late ’50s, it was his 1961 LP Let’s Hide Away and Dance Away with Freddy King that put King on the map and turned the heads of budding guitarists on both sides of the Atlantic. Half a century later, it remains one of the most influential guitar albums of all time. For the first time on vinyl, this single presents alternate takes of the killer King instrumentals “Wash Out” and “Butterscotch,” taken from that album’s recording sessions.

1. Wash Out
2. Butterscotch

The International Submarine Band (featuring Gram Parsons)
Safe at Home MONO LP w/ bonus 7″ Single -RECORD STORE DAY- Limited Edition

LP 5216 | 180 gram vinyl MONO Edition LP with bonus 7″ single

Limited Edition Record Store Day Release!

Safe at Home, the seminal 1968 LP by Gram Parsons’ International Submarine Band, is widely regarded as the record that launched the country-rock movement and was the first album to spotlight Parsons’ charismatic vocals and visionary songwriting. Sundazed’s new edition of this ’60s landmark has been mastered from the rare original mono mix and is perfectly pressed on 180gm vinyl.

Bonus limited edition 7″ single included!

This limited edition also includes a bonus 7” single of the ISB’s ultra-rare debut release, originally issued in 1966 on the Ascot label, pairing “Truck Driving Man” with “The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming.” Like the album, the single captures a world-changing musical talent discovering his strengths, making this package a powerful testament to Gram Parsons’ singular artistry.
