Acoustic Sounds expands

Acoustic Sounds, 1500 S. Ninth, already one of the largest distributors of audiophile recordings and equipment worldwide, is continuing to grow.

To handle the business' growing vinyl album inventory, owner Chad Kassem has purchased two warehouses at 543 N. 10th and 518 N. 10th. Within two years, it's likely that the company's offices will move to the, site as well, said Marc Sheforgen, manager of Acoustic Sounds' recording studio and writer for Acoustic Sounds.

"Our inventory had gotten too large, and we can't keep it all in the warehouse space we have here," Sheforgen said, of the business' current location.

The company's current headquarters formerly housed a Tractor Supply store and a Dillons supermarket.

Acoustic Sounds employs a staff of more than 30.

Between the two warehouses, there is about 50,000 square feet of space, Sheforgen said.

"For the immediate future, the plan is to work slowly, developing the office space," he said.

Kassem has also purchased some vinyl-album-pressing equipment, but there are no plans presently to start an album pressing operation here. The business already has a financial interest in a California pressing plant for its album reissue label, Analogue Productions, and its own original recording label, APO Records.
