of Montreal seems to have changed gears with the writing of their 6th studio album, "Satanic Panic in the Attic".  Having listened to their previous albums such as "The Gay Parade" or "Coquelicot Asleep In the Poppies", you'd be surprised that you were actually listening to the same band.  Satanic Panic seems to have dropped the previous psychadelic folk/circus sound and aquired a more electric/psychadelic/60s pop sound, which can more easily be heard on their newer albums "The Sunlandic Twins" and "Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer?".  

 The album opens with "Disconnect the Dots", garanteed to catch your ear and make you want to dance.  You are then carried onto some of the catchiest pop songs you will ever hear.  Like listening to a Beatles album for the first time again, you'll find yourself humming the melodies of "Lysergic Bliss" and wont be able to help but smile when the song fades right into the quirky "Will You Come and Fetch Me?".  For the next few weeks you should expect to have some of the catchiest songs drilled into your head as you find yourself listening to this album on repeat and singing along with every word.  

 Knowing that this record was written almost entirely by Kevin Barnes will have you shocked as you listen to every little detail.  It is certain that no one will ever be able to use the vocabulary and lyrical style that Kevin Barnes delivers in this album (and every ofMontreal album to say the least).  Every single song on this album, Barnes has written without a single flaw.  I have been listening to this album for over a year, at least a few times a week.  It has very quickly climbed the ladder to my top played album on iTunes, with every single song on the album making it in my 'top 25 most played' playlist.

 The album comes on a beautiful white vinyl and the album art is nothing short of phenominal (done by Kevin's brother David Barnes).  Satanic Panic In the Attic is an eccentric, bizzare, quirky, and beautiful masterpiece, one of the best written indie-pop albums of all time.  A definite piece in any ofMontreal/indie music fan's collection.
