With its suitably ambitious title, Jah Wobble's Invaders' second album crams an enormous range of styles and influences into its 60 minutes or so of running time. The album sounds like more like a label sampler than a homogenous piece by a single band. Dolores O'Riordain of the cranberries, Chaka Demus and Pliers, Natacha Atlas, Baaba Maal and Gavin Friday. The Invaders themselves seem to make up a vast cast with members from several continents.

We have lyrics in English, Spanish, French, Arabic and Cockney, the latter supplied by Wobble himself.

And yet this all works together as a single record. Helped in no small way by the bass and percussion.

Highlights for me are the rai of 'I'm an algerian', Dolores singing on 'Becoming more like God', the experimental dance of Gavin Friday's contribution, 'No more yoga of the nightclub' and Baaba Maal singing on 'Angels'.

Its a magnificent achievment.

Its also a magnificent recording. There's so much to show off and it is done well. It may be an analogue recoding(albeit with plenty of digital input) but it seems to be a digital edit. Howvere vocals and instruments are incredibly realised and clear. Bass is astounding and the vinyl pressing by Mike Marsh at the exchange is also excellent. Island released this record under a series of Audiophile numbered limited vinyl and it is deserved.

Packagin is minimal but comes with the nice cd booklet.

PS: One of the singles, 'Becoming more like God', had a B-side, 'Oh Namah Shiva', which has the most impressive bass in my collection. Well worth sourcing on 12".
