I find myself disappointed with a lot of 1960's recordings. They sound like they were recorded in a bucket onto dodgy compact cassettes. Instruments and vocals are a blurry mess and barely distinct.

The opposite is teh case here. Peggy's vocals are utterly distinct and the persistent 'Afro-cuban rhythms' are of perfect clarity.

The sleevenotes proclaim the following; 'Here's Manhattan with a twist of Latin as Peggy Lee swings through hit songs from the Great White Way, accompanied by authentic Afro-Cuban rhythms'. Jack Marshall provides the music while Peggy swings err sings.

we are thus provided with an incredibly upbeat and fun album. Tracks are from My fair Lady, Oklahoma and Can-Can amongst others. So the tracks are very familiar but are remade in a style which must have been familiar to tourists to Cuba in the 1950's.

These are tracks for dancing to and having fun to. Perhaps for romanciing to with a cocktail. And they really do sound great. The tracks like the entire record are short and each side is over just as you're getting into the swing of things. They certainly do not outstay their welcome.

I have an older reissue which as a second hand purchase is quite noisy, but this doesn't ruin the enjoyment of the music. My album has 11 tracks while the new reissue by steve Hoffman has 15. Check it out below. I can't imagine it sounding much better though but you do get those ectra tracks and in pristine condition.
