The special duke releases the latest and the third in his series of 78rpm singles. All are taken from his album, Songs from the deep forest. If your player doesn't play 78, like me, don't worry! The B-side includes the A-side as well as err the B-sides.
There's one less track than on previous 10", Portrait. That brings us to three; thetitle track, a version of Feeder's stumble and fall and another self-penned track called Glimmer girl.
The interesting Duke specialises in a quirky out of date piano driven upbeat style. He really would be at home on Broadway. The title track is a magnificent example of this. Its punchy, sweet, exciting and wonderfully romantic. It will have you bouncing around your room. Definitely worth the price of admission.
The extra tracks are not as wonderful. The cover version is more introspective but touching. Glimmer girl is bouncy but does not have the epic feel of 'Last night...' But they are definitely worth listening to.
Its a 78rpm ten inch. Its packaged in a nice aged-look sleeve with an inner. Recording quality is good and punchy; clean. And the vinyl pressing seems very good.
